I am not a robot Plaid

The inspiration for this piece comes from mid-century futurism. As a child, I recall watching classic sci-fi films filled with images of futuristic computers, robots and grotesque human-machine hybrids. These hulking creations were larger than man and made in the image of their creators.

In today's world, the ideas that were once pure fantasy are becoming an ever-increasing reality. As we grapple with technology, we take on the role of creators, forming objects that reflect our own image.

From this place in the modern world, I looked back to the themes of classic futurism, creating a wooden robot to echo the shapes of the imagined sci-fi forms of the mid 20th century. I wanted to create him with purpose: he is a keeper who protects your possessions like a stone guard, and blends into modern life with a fashionable plaid suit. He is warm, charming and a great listener -- all of the qualities needed to make the ideal machine in the image of the ideal man.
